What is Head Start?

Head Start is a federally funded, comprehensive early childhood education program that serves 3-5 year old income-eligible preschool children and their families. Services focus on individualized preschool education and school readiness; social and emotional development; dental, physical, and mental health; and nutrition.

Early Head Start is a federally funded, comprehensive early childhood education program that serves 6 weeks to 3-year-old income-eligible preschool children and their families. Services focus on individualized preschool education and school readiness; social and emotional development; dental, physical, and mental health; and nutrition.

How old can my child be to apply for Early Head Start and Head Start?

Our program starts accepting children as young as 6 weeks old up to 5 years of age.

How do I qualify?

Families qualify for the program based on your household income and other factors. Please contact our office for further information.

How do I apply?

Fill out our “Getting to Know You” form and one of our Family Advocates will contact you to schedule an appointment for your desired location.

What areas do you serve?

The Parent Child Development has programs in 7 different counties. The counties we serve include: Charles City, New Kent, King William, West Point, Gloucester, Middlesex and Matthews.

How can I sign up to be a volunteer or apply for a full-time job?

We appreciate community involvement! If you are interested in volunteering we ask that you submit and email request or contact our main office at (804) 843-2289. We are always accepting applications for full-time employment and invite you to for current openings.

Do you provide any resources to help families?

The Parent Child Development Corporation is committed to the success and enhancement of our families. Our program matches each family with a Family Advocate that will work with you for the entirety of your child’s preschool career. Family Advocates work with families on a number of areas to provide you with the best resources available.
